DFAS is the Defense Finance Accounting Service. It’s the agency of the Department of Defense (DoD) that oversees their accounting and finance functions.
It was established in 1991 to join and reduce the costs of the DoD’s financial management.
WHO IS DFAS FOR?
DFAS is a service that provides military pay for service members and retirees, as well as pay services for civilian DoD employees, vendors, and contractors.
DFAS is a hub of accounting and finance information for service members and retirees. DFAS includes access to information and services like:
- MyPay - AskDFAS - Tax statements - Garnishment information - Final Pay - Garnishment
MyPay is the payroll system for the DoD. It falls under DFAS. The myPay website provides a secured login for service members and retirees access to their pay information.
In your myPay account, you can review your monthly military pay or Leave and Earnings Statement (LES), change your Thrift Savings Plan contributions, set up, and adjust allotments. You can also change your address, review travel claims, and update your direct deposit information. If you’re eligible and elect to use the Savings Deposit Program during a deployment, you can check your savings information in your myPay account.
You can ask questions through their virtuals assistance program, askDFAS. AskDFAS is the customer service hub for all branches of service and pay statuses to receive support on military pay issues.
