This may sound surprising to you, but there are four words that will save you money.
It’s so simple, but oddly enough no one uses them to save. I’m not sure if it’s because they don’t know if they can use them or if it’s because their embarrassed. Either way, I’m going to put it out there, to set everyone free to use them in a phrase.I use the 4 words all the time.
They can be used in many places and different situations, but I never hear other people say them. I say them to my family, especially my kids, all the time. I tell the person on the other line when I call my cable service. There are even times I say them, friends. Many times I say them in the grocery store, but I probably say them more in Target.
At this point in my life, I think I just like to say the four words.
It makes me feel like I’m managing my family’s finances well. It also lets everyone else know I’m watching what I do with our money. Every time I say these words together, I save money. I want you to start using them to save money. Do you want to know what they are? I’ll tell you, but I’m warning you, you’re going to kick yourself for not using them sooner.The 4 words that will save you tons of money are
Wait for it“I can’t afford that.”
Yep, I can’t afford that are the four words that are going to start saving you money pronto. They’re powerful words when you think about it. By saying you can’t afford something you are saying “after setting my financial goals and creating a family budget, that purchase does not fit into either of those and therefore, I will not be buying today.” Another benefit of using the four words is it teaches your kids or loved ones that it’s ok not to be able to afford everything. Not everyone’s budget allows them the ability to buy the latest gaming system or the newest outfits. It starts a discussion about money, and that is usually the hardest part. If anyone gives you a hard time about your new favorite thing to say, tell them this:“I’d love to buy that, but I just can’t afford that. If a bought that, it would take away from the money goals I’m/we’re trying to reach.”
That’ll show them you’re serious about your money.
Give the four words a try. The more you say them, the easier it will get and the more money you’ll be saving. When it comes to spending money, the buck stops with you.
